Review and comparison of Dyson V10 vs V11 vacuum cleaners

A Quick Comparison of Dyson V10 and V11

The Dyson V10 and V11 cord-free vacuums have many things in common, as do the other Dyson cord-free vacuums.

There is a handheld mode and quick-release tools on these cordless vacuums. Both of these vacuums come with strong suction, a digital motor, a powered cleaner head, lithium-ion batteries, 50 minute runs (which is actually deceiving – more on that later), and Dyson’s redesigned bin alignment to increase airflow. Additionally to HEPA filters, both machines feature Dyson’s hygienic bin emptying system.

Not to mention that both vacuum cleaners are quite expensive!

They do have some important differences, however. The V11 adds an LCD digital display, 190 Air Watts of suction power compared with 165 Air Watts, and a longer run-time at higher power settings as well as a price difference which can range between £149.99 and more depending on the version. Additionally, the V11 Torque Drive and V11 Absolute models come with automatic suction adjustment and the High Torque floorhead.

The following two cordless vacuum cleaners deserve a closer look.

Dyson V10 vs V11 Versions

We must first understand how Dyson names its cordless stick vacuums before comparing Dyson V10 vs V11. A vacuum with a V series model number (such as V10 or V11) has features and performance that differ greatly from those with a V7, V8, or V10.

Dyson cordless vacuum cleaners come in a variety of versions (such as Absolute, Animal, and Torque Drive). The difference between versions of a single vacuum (such as V11 Absolute vs. V11 Animal) is only the floorheads and tools included.

Although it’s the same vacuum, it’s still important to find the right version for your needs, especially since prices can vary widely.

The V10 is available in three versions as of this writing. They have the same primary floorhead as the V11 models:

  • The Dyson V10 Animal is a basic model with a direct-drive cleaning head, a mini motorised tool, and a variety of non-motorised tools.
  • In addition to its features, the Dyson V10 Animal Extra comes with specialist tools, such as the up-top adaptor.
  • Dyson’s Soft Roller head is included with the Dyson V10 Absolute, but not all the non-motorised tools included with the Animal Extra.

The V11 cordless vacuum cleaner is also available in three different versions:

  • Dyson V11 Animal – The entry-level model. There is also a motorised tool and Dyson’s direct-drive head. Since the Animal does not come with a High Torque floorhead, it cannot automatically adjust suction based on the V11’s Dynamic Load Sensor technology.
  • The Dyson V11 Torque Drive comes with a new High Torque floorhead (and Dynamic Load Sensor technology). Several non-motorised accessories are included, as well as a mini motorized tool.
  • Dyson V11 Absolute comes with both the High Torque and Soft Roller floorheads for hard floors (available in Black/Grey and Silver). You can get both cleaning heads with this model if you want the full V11 experience.

As well as the V11, Dyson offers the V11 Outsize, which is larger than the regular V11. The Outsize is not included in this comparison, but you can read our full review to learn more.

Our Dyson V10 vs V11 comparison will focus on the Absolute versions of both vacuum cleaners, since these provide the full experience.

Dyson V10 vs V11 Design and Weight

Dyson’s V10 and V11 appear to be similar at first glance. However, they have some differences in design.

Due to the larger battery, the V11 is a heavier vacuum cleaner. In contrast to the V10’s 3.68 kg weight, the V11 weighs 4.15kg. It might not sound like a big deal – and both vacuums are still light – but the V11 is noticeably heavier.

The V11 has an LCD display, which is its most important new feature. On this screen, you’ll be able to view various metrics, including maintenance alerts and remaining battery run time. This feature automatically updates the run-time based on what power mode and tool you’re using.

On the other hand, the V10 only indicates how much cleaning time remains by displaying a low battery indicator. It does not have a display.

The Dyson V11 and Dyson V10 share most of their design features, except for the heavier design and the addition of a screen. Each vacuum has a 0.76-liter dustbin capacity, which is quite large for a cordless vacuum. Dyson’s “Point and Shoot” dust bin system, which allows dirt to be released more easily and prevents dust from getting caught, is also included, as is a bagless design.

Dyson’s Trigger system is also used by both the V10 and V11. While this conserves battery power, you must hold down the trigger every time you vacuum, which can become tiring during long cleaning sessions.

The “Design” Category Winner: It Depends

Despite having LCD screens, the V11 and the V11 have many identical design features. This category is also a draw because the V10 is a bit lighter.

Cleanliness, Suction Power and Noise Levels Dyson V10 vs V11

As we can see from Dyson V10 vs V11, both machines can clean almost any type of floor. Their floorheads are of high quality, and their suction is powerful enough to rival many corded vacuums. For Dyson’s V10 and V11, radial cyclones prevent the bin from losing suction as it fills.

Due to the V11’s higher price, you’d expect there to be some performance difference – and there’s no doubt that it is the better vacuum cleaner.

Dyson claims the new battery delivers 20% more suction than the V10 thanks to its higher capacity. The Dyson V10 Cyclone produces 150 Air Watts on its highest power mode, while this model generates 185 Air Watts.

A new Dyson Torque Drive floorhead is also included in the V11. Compared to the direct-drive floorhead that comes with the V10, this is more powerful, so the bristles can remove dirt more effectively.

However, the floorhead on the V10 is still among the best on any cordless vacuum. However, the V10 remains an excellent performer on all surfaces despite the V11’s improved brush bar power.

Dyson’s new “Dynamic Load Sensor” technology is one of the key features of the V11.

With the V11 in “Auto” cleaning mode (which replaces “Medium”), the main floorhead (High Torque) can detect the type of floor and automatically adjust the vacuum’s suction.

You will find this feature particularly useful if you own a house with a variety of different types of floors. The battery life is also extended. There is no automatic cleaning mode on the V10 – you must adjust it manually.

Cleaning the flooring

The Dyson V10 and V11 perform exceptionally well on carpets, hard floors, and laminate. In addition, they have a standard floorhead that can handle any type of floor, as well as side suction for better edge cleaning.

Our opinion is that the V11 is a better vacuum for carpet cleaning despite their similarities. The machine cleans both low-pile carpets and long pile carpets efficiently, and its brush bar is powerful enough to agitate carpet fibres. The V10 is not as effective at cleaning carpets due to the lower brush bar power and suction.

In terms of cleaning hard floors, the two vacuums are similar. They both perform well. Despite the V11’s greater suction, the V10 is almost as effective at removing dust and dirt between floorboards. This also applies to laminate and tile floors.

A version with the “Fluffy” Soft Roller floorhead will effectively pick up both small particles and larger debris. Hard floors can still be cleaned with the V10 and V11 when used with regular floorheads.

As far as manoeuvrability when cleaning is concerned, the V10 and V11 are comparable. The floorhead joint provides easy cleaning under low furniture, and they are both equally comfortable to steer.

A disadvantage of Dyson cordless vacuum cleaners is that they tend to feel top-heavy – and this is more so with the V11 due to its heavier design.

Cleaning Above the Floor

As far as above-floor cleaning is concerned, the vacuums are almost identical. They are excellent at removing dirt and dust due to their powerful suction combined with a detachable floorhead, handheld mode, and wand for high areas.

As a winner in this category, however, the V10 is more convenient to use due to its lighter design.

Pet Hair

Again, pet hair isn’t cleaned much differently between the two options. You can choose either vacuum if you have a dog or cat, as they are among the best cordless vacuums for cleaning pet hair.

Hair is easily removed from carpets with the powerful brush bars, while the motorised tool is great for removing hair from upholstery and car interiors.

As a result of its deeper carpet cleaning capability, the V11 outperforms the competition in this category.

As the winner of the “Cleaning Performance” category, Dyson V11 is the best vacuum cleaner on the market.

You can clean all surfaces very effectively with the Dyson V10 and V11. However, the V11 is better at cleaning carpets because of the improved primary floorhead and increased suction. With the V11, you can also switch between two different types of floors using the adaptive suction mode.

Comparison Dyson V10 vs V11 in terms of battery life and runtime

It seems like a tie in this category in our Dyson V10 vs V11 comparison, since both vacuums have a maximum run-time of 60 minutes.

However, this is the maximum battery life when in the eco mode and using non-motorized tools. The battery cells in the V11 are up to 50% bigger than the V10’s. The V10’s battery is 27.2V, while the V20’s is 28.4V.

Due to this, the V11 is able to run at a faster speed for an extended period of time than the V10. With the V11’s “Auto” mode, the vacuum intelligently adjusts to the floor surface to save battery life. When using the “Auto” function, the V11 can run for 35-55 minutes as opposed to 30-35 minutes on “Normal” mode.

The maximum suction setting of the V11 lasts around 14 minutes, which is 50% longer than the V10’s 12 minutes. You can use these modes (also called maximum mode or boost mode) when you need extra power, but you should use them sparingly to save battery life.

The V11’s longer run-time also means that it takes around an hour longer to fully charge (5.5 hours vs. 4.5 hours for the V10).

The Dyson V11 is the overall winner of the “Battery” Category.

The V11 has a larger battery that can provide greater suction power for longer periods of time. In comparison to the Dyson V10 vs V11, the V11 requires around an hour longer to recharge.

Comparing Dyson v10 vs v11 Filtration Systems

Dyson’s V10 and V11 are tied in this category due to their use of whole-machine filtration and HEPA filters. With these features combined, the vacuums can retain more allergens than simple foam filters.

You should not need to replace Dyson HEPA filters (if you maintain them properly) during the lifetime of the vacuum.

When it comes to Dyson V10 vs V11, both models are certified by Allergy Standards Limited as asthma and allergy friendly.

In comparing Dyson V10 vs V11, a draw was concluded in terms of filters.

Comparing Dyson v10 vs v11, both vacuums feature whole-machine filtration and a lifetime HEPA filter.

Dyson v10 vs v11 Tools and Accessories

In this category, too, the Dyson cordless vacuums have high-quality tools with quick-release designs. Additionally, they come with a docking station that doubles as a storage tool and charger.

As for Dyson v10 vs v11, both models have the same available accessories, excluding the primary floorhead. Soft Rollers are included with both Absolute versions to improve hard floor pickup.

The Soft Roller is unable to utilize the V11’s automatic suction adjustment, however. When using this tool, you will not be able to fully take advantage of one of the key V11 upgrades, if your home has mainly hard floors.

A mini turbo tool and various non-motorized attachments are also included in the vacuums. The attachments include:

  • The extension wand converts the model into a stick vacuum for floor cleaning (when the floorhead is attached.) You can also separate the floorhead and use the wand to vacuum ceilings. The Dyson V10 and V11 can both be converted into handheld vacuums by detaching the stick.
  • A soft dusting brush is included for dusting delicate surfaces.
  • The combination tool has a stiff brush and a smaller head, so it’s a good option for cleaning cars.
  • It’s ideal for cleaning tight spaces because it’s long and thin.

You will receive different accessories depending on what version of the V10 and V11 you buy. You can also purchase separate tools such as the stubborn dirt brush and mattress tool.

WINNER: A Draw for the “Tools and Accessories” Category.

Both Dyson v10 and v11 vacuums use Dyson’s quick-release technology, apart from the primary floorhead. Both vacuums come with a docking station for them to be able to recharge.

Dyson v10 vs v11 Price and Value Comparison

The Dyson V10 and V11 are without a doubt the best cordless vacuums on the market at the moment, when we compare Dyson v10 vs v11. Both are powerful, offer excellent cleaning performance, and include a number of useful features.

Nevertheless, are the new features of the Dyson V11 worth the additional cost?

We believe the V11 is worth the additional cost if you just want the best vacuum. As a result, it performs better than the V10 in terms of suction power, battery life, and use of the upgraded High Torque floorhead.

Additionally, it uses a newer technology than the V10. It is now easier to use because of the LCD display that shows remaining battery life. Furthermore, we’re huge fans of the adaptive suction technology since it maximizes battery run-time without sacrificing performance.

The V10, however, offers better value for money if you’re only interested in cleaning performance. On all surfaces, it is almost as good as the V11, but it costs around £120 less (depending on which version you buy).

Shopping around is always a good idea when buying a vacuum cleaner. You should check online stores such as Amazon, Argos, Currys, Very, and others to find the best price – although Dyson vacuum prices are generally fairly consistent.

The Dyson V10 won the “Value for Money” category

In comparing Dyson v10 vs v11, we find the Dyson V10 to be more value-oriented. The V11 comes close to matching its performance, but is much more affordable. However, if you require optimal cleaning performance on carpets or if you prefer an LCD screen and adaptive suction, then the V11 is a better choice.

Dyson V10 vs V11 Summary and Key Differences

For a quick summary of the Dyson V10 vs V11 comparison, here are the main differences between the two models:

  • The V11 has a larger battery that is capable of generating around 20% more suction power.
  • Floorhead. The V11 has the new High Torque floorhead, which generates more brush bar power than the V10’s direct-drive cleaning head. This makes the V11 more effective at cleaning deep pile carpets.
  • Battery life In low-power mode, the V11 has the same 50-minute maximum runtime as the V10, but in high- or auto-modes, the bigger battery can last longer.
  • The V11 takes 5.5 hours to fully recharge, compared to the V10 which only takes 4.5 hours.
  • There is a 0.7kg weight difference between the two models.
  • Suction Adjustment The V11 has several advanced features not found on the V10, including automatically adjusting suction (when in “Auto” mode and using the High Torque floorhead.) This conserves battery life and makes the vacuum more efficient.
  • A LCD screen on the V11 shows remaining battery life (the battery life is updated each time you change tools or cleaning modes.) It also displays the current power mode and filter status.
  • Price Both vacuums are expensive, but the V11 is around £100 more expensive than comparable models (at the time of writing).

Dyson v10 vs v11 (Which is Better And Which Should You Buy?)

When comparing Dyson v10 vs v11, the Dyson V11 is the superior vacuum cleaner. With enhanced suction power and a redesigned floorhead, it enhances the cleaning performance of the V10. Vacuuming deep pile carpets with this machine is noticeably easier than with the V10.

Additionally, the V11 has a longer battery life, automatic suction adjustment to maximize run-time, and an LCD screen.

Even though the V10 Cyclone still provides excellent cleaning performance that is almost as good as the V11, you should probably only buy the V11 if you want the intelligent suction control system and LCD screen. For homes with a lot of deep pile carpet, it’s worth paying more for the V11.

Hopefully this Dyson V10 vs V11 comparison has helped you decide which model to buy. You can leave any questions regarding Dyson V10 vs V11 in the comments section below.
