Sharp TV Won’t Turn On [Fixed in 2023]

There are times when Sharp TVs simply refuse to turn on for no apparent reason.

This issue has been reported by hundreds of Sharp TV owners, some of whom have been dealing with it for many years.

In about 80% of sharp tv not turning on, there is an easy fix.

Sharp TV won’t turn on

Sharp TV Won’t Turn On

Resetting your Sharp TV is the solution if it won’t turn on. Remove the TV from the wall and wait 60 seconds before plugging it back in. The power button must be pressed and held for 30 seconds while the TV is unplugged. Your Sharp TV should now work after 60 seconds have passed.

Turn off Sharp TV by unplugging it

Sharp TVs turn back on best when unplugged from a wall socket, despite the fact that this may seem obvious.

Waiting the full 60 seconds is the key here. Don’t plug it back in until at least a minute has passed.

If you do not have the TV plugged in, find the power button on your Sharp TV and hold it for 30 seconds. Do not use the remote to turn on your TV; instead, hold the power button on the TV!

By doing this, you are allowing the TV to soft reset itself and drain any residual power left in it. Using the remote to turn on and off the TV is different!

You should see the TV power up immediately after plugging it back in after 60 seconds.

About 80% of cases should be fixed by this fix, but the remaining 20% may be a bit more challenging. The fixes listed below should help you get your Sharp TV to turn on again.

Remove the batteries from the Sharp remote

Taking out your remote’s batteries may help if unplugging and replugging your TV did not fix the issue.

The remote should be completely emptied of both batteries.

The remote’s power button should be held down for 30 seconds after the batteries are removed. You need to do this for at least 30 seconds! It’s not 10 seconds, it’s 30!

Once you have given the remote 30 seconds, recharge the batteries and turn on the television. Hopefully, it will now power back up.

Note: For the sake of safety, you might want to replace the batteries during this step.

Force turn on Sharp TV

It is necessary to force the Sharp TV on if the logo blinks fast and then slow when it will not turn on.

This can be accomplished by simultaneously pressing the volume down, channel up, and powering on your TV. Check your TV instead of your remote before you do this!

As soon as your Sharp TV is turned on, you should hear a “clicking” sound.

(Note: In the event that this doesn’t work, head over to “Factory reset Sharp TV without remote” and follow the steps under ” Buttons on the side of your TV! )

Factory reset Sharp TV

Click the Menu button on your remote after the TV is powered on (perhaps unplugging it or removing the remote batteries temporarily powered it).

Once that’s done, go to Initial Setup > Advanced > Reset > Yes. You will be taken to the initial setup screen after turning your TV off and back on again.

Your Sharp TV will be restored to the settings it had when you bought it.

(Some Sharp TVs have slightly different factory reset steps. Go to Sharp’s official website and enter your TV’s model number. You can find your TV’s user manual online. That manual will give you the exact steps to perform a factory reset.)

How to reset a Sharp TV without a remote control

Your Sharp TV can be factory reset even if you can’t access the remote or the screen does not turn on.

Buttons on the side of your TV

Press the volume down and input buttons simultaneously while unplugging your TV from the wall. Reconnect your Sharp TV while you hold these buttons down.

Keeping holding may take a few tries in order for your TV to boot up again.

At the upper left hand corner of your screen, you should see a blue “K” box. Immediately after seeing the “K”, press and hold both the volume down and channel down buttons at the same time.

You will be able to access the service menu on your Sharp TV by pressing this button. DON’T GET HURT! An error here can seriously damage your TV’s main board.

Navigation between pages can be done by pressing up or down on the channel until you reach page 2. Toggle the following by raising or lowering the volume:

  • Turn on by resetting
  • Reset the lamp error back to on
  • By pressing Enter (or OK), set INDUSTRIAL INIT to ON

You should unplug your TV as soon as you see “Success” and a green screen.

Unplug your TV, and then press and hold the power button. Make sure the TV is plugged back in while you hold the power button.

USB keyboard

Other options are available if you can’t find your Sharp TV’s buttons or if your TV is mounted in a tight spot.

Your Sharp TV can be connected directly to a USB keyboard by plugging it in on the back.

Your TV can then be navigated and reset using the keyboard.

Smart phone app

The Roku app can also be downloaded to your smart phone if you have a Sharp Roku TV.

Using your smart phone as a remote after connecting your TV to the app is easy!

Universal Remote

Finally, you can enter the Sharp code for a universal remote you have lying around to get it to work.

Hopefully your power problem has been completely resolved by this point, but in case it has not I’ve included some additional steps worth trying.

Reinstall the power cord in the back of the Sharp TV

The power cord from the back of the TV can also be unplugged to solve your power problem.

It is best to unplug this for about 60 seconds before plugging it back in.

Be sure to tighten the connection when you plug it back in! A tight connection ensures that the TV receives stable power – you don’t want it to be loose at all.

Reconnect the power cord and turn on the TV by pressing the power button instead of the remote control.

Hopefully you’ll be able to see the TV working again.

You might want to try another outlet

I would recommend trying a different power outlet if you’re still experiencing problems after trying different power outlets up to this point.

It is not uncommon for outlets to have shorts or blown fuses without our knowledge.

Another option is to plug yet another smaller appliance into the outlet where your TV is plugged in instead of lugging your television around.

That outlet is probably working if that device is powered on, so you don’t have to worry about it.

It is likely not the cause of the problem, but it is an important troubleshooting step that should be eliminated as a possible suspect as soon as possible.

Backlight is broken

There is a very good chance that your Sharp TV’s backlight is broken if nothing has worked so far.

Turn on your TV, then take a flashlight and put it very close to the screen of your TV. This will confirm whether this is the case.

Watch the screen carefully to see if anything appears when the light is flashed.

Your TV’s backlight may need to be replaced if you see a faint picture appearing on your screen.

Faqs

Why won’t my Sharp TV turn on?

There can be several reasons why your Sharp TV won’t turn on. Some common reasons include a faulty power supply, a malfunctioning remote control, a loose power cable, or a damaged circuit board.

What can I do if my Sharp TV won’t turn on?

First, make sure that the TV is plugged in and that the power outlet is working properly. Check the power cable and make sure that it is securely plugged into both the TV and the power outlet. If the problem persists, try using a different power cable. If the TV still won’t turn on, try resetting it by unplugging it from the power outlet and waiting for a few minutes before plugging it back in.

Can a power surge cause my Sharp TV not to turn on?

Yes, a power surge can damage the TV’s power supply, which can prevent it from turning on. If you suspect that a power surge may have caused the problem, try plugging the TV into a surge protector or using a UPS (uninterruptible power supply).

What should I do if my Sharp TV still won’t turn on after trying the above steps?

If none of the above steps work, you may need to contact a professional technician or the manufacturer’s customer support for further assistance. They may be able to diagnose and repair the problem or advise you on whether the TV needs to be replaced.

Conclusion

In terms of power consumption, Sharp TVs are somewhat finicky. Here are some fixes to try if your Sharp TV won’t turn on:

  • Wait 60 seconds after unplugging your TV
  • Hold the power button for 30 seconds after removing the batteries from your remote
  • Turn your TV on by force
  • Whether you have a remote or not, reset your TV to factory settings
  • Make sure your TV’s power cord is seated properly
  • Change the power outlet where your TV is plugged in
  • Replace the backlight on the TV

It might be a good idea to contact Sharp support if none of these solutions work. Unless you buy a new TV, you’re stuck with it.
